Vi presentiamo, in esclusiva per Comicus, un'intervista a John Bernecker, che ha lavorato come controfigura di Peter Sarsgaard nell'atteso Green Lantern, l'adattamento cinematografico dell'eroe DC Comics diretto da Martin Campbell e interpretato da Ryan Reynolds.

Puoi dire ai nostri lettori come sei entrato nell'industria del cinema e come hai iniziato a fare lo stunt?

Sono entrato nel business tramite invito. Una squadra di stuntman della città in cui vivo aveva bisogno di qualcuno con abilità come le mie e mi ha invitato a far parte del gruppo.

Per quanto tempo hai lavorato sul film?

Tre settimane e mezzo.

Come è stato lavorare con il regista Martin Campbell?

Lavorare con Martin Campbell è stato senza dubbio un’esperienza. Era così divertente vederlo lavorare. Diceva le cose più buffe e pazze e tutti adoravano vederlo all’opera.

Prima dell'inizio delle riprese, immagino, dovrai allenarti: hai svolto un allenamento anche in vista del lavoro su Green Lantern? E se sì, che tipo di allenamento hai seguito?

Non ho dovuto fare alcun allenamento specifico per questo film. Di solito ci alleniamo 5 o 6 giorni la settimana in qualsiasi aspetto della professione, per cui siamo sempre pronti quando il lavoro arriva.

Come descriveresti il livello di azione che è presente nella pellicola?

Non so dire quanta azione ci sarà nel film, ma dalle scene a cui ho partecipato sembra che questa sarà parecchio divertente e interessante.

Hai lavorato direttamente anche con gli attori del cast, come Peter Sarsgaard? Ce ne puoi parlare?

Ho lavorato in alcune scene in cui era presente Ryan Reynolds. Non sono riuscito a incontrare Peter Sarsgaard poiché io non ero la sua controfigura principale. Ma un giorno in cui questa non poteva essere presente sul set l’ho sostituita io, visto che rispondevo ai requisiti richiesti.

Nel film il personaggio di Sarsgaard attraversa una trasformazione. Hai dovuto girare scene con lo stesso trucco prostetico utilizzato per lui? Come ci descrivi questa esperienza?

Ho dovuto affrontare anch’io il trucco prostetico ed è stata una cosa lunga. I truccatori hanno impiegato 5 ore per applicare il tutto e la trasformazione è stata straordinaria. Queste persone sono davvero incredibili in quello che fanno.

Puoi descriverci l'atmosfera sul set? Puoi raccontarci qualche simpatico aneddoto accaduto durante le riprese?

L’atmosfera era sempre molto concentrata durante le riprese o subito prima, ma tra una e l’altra erano tutti molto gentili e mi sono trovato molto bene, davvero delle stupende persone.
Ci sono stati molti momenti divertenti. Quando si giravano scene con centinaia di comparse, Martin prendeva il megafono e trovava il tempo di scherzare con loro, il che era molto divertente e ha contribuito a creare una situazione edificante.

Quali sono i tuoi futuri progetti?

Ho appena finito di lavorare nel film Freerunner, ho lavorato di recente in un film a grosso budget in uscita nel 2012 di nome Battleship e molto altri progetti sono in arrivo.

Could you tell to our readers about how you brought into movie industry and how did your career as a stunt begun?

I got into the stunt business by being invited into it. A stunt team in the town I live in needed someone with the skills i had and invited me to be part of there group.

How much did you work at this film?

I worked 3 1/2 weeks on Green Lantern.

How's been working with director Martin Campbell?

Working with Martin Campbell was definitely an experience. He was so fun to watch work. He would say the funniest craziest things and everyone just loved to watch him work.

I suppose you had to train yourself before the shooting begun: did you took a particular training even in view of your work on Green Lantern? If it's so, what kind of training did you have?

I did not have to do any specific target training for this film. We train 5-6 days a week already in almost every aspect of the job possible so we are ready whenever anything comes up.

How would you describe the level of action of the movie?

I cant say about how much action there will be, but from the scenes I was in it looks like the action will be a lot of fun and interesting.

Did you directly work with cast's actor such as Peter Sarsgaard? Could you talk about that?

There were a few scenes I got to work on where Ryan Reynolds was present. I did not get to meet Peter Sarsgaard as I was not his "Main" stunt double. His main stunt double could not be there for a certain stunt that day and I fit the criteria so I just helped fill in.

In the movie Sarsgaard's character goes through a transformation. Did you have to shoot any sequence wearing his same prosthetics? How would you describe this experience?

I did have to go through the prosthetics which was long to put on. It took the artist 5 hours to apply everything to my face and the transformation looked amazing. These people really are incredible at what they do.

Could you describe the atmosphere on the set? Could you tell us some funny anecdote that happened during the shooting?

The atmosphere on set while I was there was always serious during filming and right before but in between everyone was super nice and got along, just great people to be around. There were numerous funny moments. While filming a big scenes with hundred of extras Martin would always take the time to get on the loud speaker and start talking and playing around with the extras which was really funny and kept everyone in a uplifting mood.

What are your future projects?

Some of my future projects are just finished filming the movie Free Runner and worked on the big budget film coming out in 2012 called Battleship and many other projects in the work also.
